Install
Installation is very simple: Unpack the archive to any location, launch setup.py and follow the instructions.
First run
On first start it is not mandatory but strongly recommended to open the settings and configure Qemulator to your needs. There are two ways to open the settings dialog: 1. In main menu open settings->preferences 2. Click on the "Configure Qemulator" button on the toolbar of the main window.
Setting up paths
The first and most important step is the selection of the Main emu images folder. This is the place where your qemu images are currently stored or will be stored. The content of this folder will be shown in the main window of Qemulator and will also be used as default folder for all image related works.
In the section "CD-Rom/DVD/Floppy devices" you can add all your removable media devices that should be used within Qemulator. Enter a name of your choice and the path to the device (not to the mountpoint!).
Under "qemu programs for all platforms" add the commands or paths to all of the available qemu-system-xxx binaries and the main program. Usually the default entys should work fine on most systems. The given names will be shown in Qemulator to represent the platforms in a more human readable format.

Main window settings
Here you can set up the general behaviour and look and feel of Qemulator.
The "auto show empty settings" and "auto hide stored settings" set the behaviour of the setup panel for boot images. If "auto show empty settings" is enabled, the settings panel will appear automatically if you select an image or machine, that isn't yet configured. In analogy the "auto hide stored settings" option defines if the settings panel will hide automatically on selecting an allways configured image/machine.
Under "Icon settings you can set the required size of the icons in the "My machines" list.
Use Tray Icon determines if the tray icon generally will be used on program startup. If you disable it, all depending functions like hiding to tray are disabled also.
If "Allways hide to Tray" is set, the main window will be minimized to tray on window close, instead of exiting the whole application.
Control monitor
This are the settings for the control monitor.
Allways hide to tray will minimize each control monitor to it's own menu entry in the system tray menu. If "Allways start in toolbar only mode" is enabled, each new opened control monitor will initially be opened in the minimal view, where only the toolbar for pause/resume, reset and exit the emulation is visible.
Under "Define Hotkeys" you can enter predefined keyboard events that will appear for selection in the quick command list of the "send keyboard event" section of the control monitor.
NOTE: Some of the settings take effect after restarting qemulator. So if your settings don't do what you need, restart Qemulator and look if everything is fine then.
